Cloud Scopes Unified Rbac

In brief

The documentation now states that updates to cloud scopes, including subscription changes, may take about 8–10 hours to appear in portal filters and scoped data views. During the refresh, results may be incomplete or empty even when the configuration was saved.

What Defender admins need to know

Administrators should allow time for refresh before troubleshooting apparently missing scoped data.

Summaries are generated from the documentation change itself.

Cloud scope updates may take time to appear in filtering

After you create or update a cloud scope, such as by adding or removing subscriptions, the change might not appear immediately in portal filters and scoped data views. In some cases, the refresh can take about 8–10 hours.

During this time, filters might return incomplete or empty results even though the cloud scope configuration was saved successfully. If this happens, wait for the refresh to finish, and then try again.

We're working to improve freshness for this experience.

Use the environment filter

Purpose: The Environment filter enables deep investigation, mitigation, and remediation focus. | RBAC model separation | Unified RBAC is independent of Azure RBAC (must be configured separately). | | API support | Portal only today for scope CRUD & assignments; API coming soon. | | Dynamic selection | Conditional/dynamic inclusion rules not yet supported. | | Cloud scope refresh | Cloud scope changes can take about 8–10 hours to appear in filters and scoped data views. For more information, see Cloud scope updates may take time to appear in filtering. | | Filtering in XDR (incidents/alerts) | Global scopes filter not fully integrated; partial table-level inheritance only. | | Cross-experience coverage | Some aggregated scores (for example: exposure score, Secure Score variants) may not fully scope-filter. | | Visualization constraints | Asset-rich views honor scoping but may limit related asset detail due to permission boundaries. |
